These shipping containers earn their keep as jobsite tool storage — and this customer had invested in custom build-outs inside for organized, work-ready tool storage. That’s exactly why replacing them was the wrong answer: swapping in a different container means redoing all of that custom work. The steel was sound. Only the coating had given up — faded, chalked, and damaged in places. Better to fix than replace.

Shipping containers live outside by definition, and Utah sun and weather are hard on factory paint. By the time this one came to us, the finish had oxidized to a dull chalk, and rust was bleeding through in streaks wherever the coating had been scraped and dinged by years of jobsite duty.

Blasted Clean, Then Sealed in Epoxy Primer
We blasted the container down past the failing paint and surface rust to clean steel with a uniform anchor profile — the only surface a coating system can truly lock into. Then it got its first line of defense: an industrial-grade epoxy primer chosen for abrasion resistance, because a tool-storage container on an active jobsite gets banged, scraped, and loaded hard every week.

Topcoated in High-Solids Polyurethane
Over the epoxy primer we sprayed a high-solids polyurethane topcoat — the industrial answer to the exact failure that brought this container in. Polyurethane holds its color and gloss under UV instead of chalking out, so the finish keeps looking sharp season after season in the sun. The result: a container that looks brand new, protected by a two-coat industrial system that’s built to take jobsite abuse.

The custom build-outs stayed exactly as the crew set them up — and the container went straight back to work.
